About Camelon & District Pipe Band

Based in Falkirk, Camelon and District Pipe Band are a registered charity serving the local community teaching piping and drumming to people of all ages from 10 upwards. We offer a teaching system for all pipers and drummers and strive for our main aims and objectives of competitive playing. The band competes in Grade 4B under the auspices of the Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association.

Camelon Pipe Band

The band is led by Pipe Major Jimmy Gavin. Tuition is provided by Charlie Finlay on the pipes and Jockie McLean on the drums. Both bring a great deal of experience and enthusiasm to the teaching of younger members of the band.

The primary focus of the band leadership is success on the competition field. However, the band also plays at local Galas, Weddings and other events both at home and abroad. The band was fortunate to play in France and Italy in 2009, and the Interceltic Festival of Avilés for 10 days in July 2010. Recently, the band returned to France in August 2011 and 2012 after the World Pipe Band Championships.

We are very proud of the friendly and welcoming atmosphere we provide for players of all ages to come and play with us. After recent lean years the band has now rebuilt to around 25 members with various levels of ability. This is mostly thanks to our own in-house teaching and tutors as well as some more experienced players joining our ranks. The band also has a highly dedicated committee to ensure the band can continue to compete, perform at home and abroad and offer teaching to all youngsters. If you are interested in learning to play pipes or drums or perhaps you can already play and you're interested in joining us then please feel free to contact us.
