26th Nov - Bag Packing Fundraising Update

On Saturday the band spent the day bag packing in ASDA Falkirk to raise some much-needed funds. Over the course of the day, we raised more then £1,000 for the band, which was of course an excellent result. Many thanks to all those who took part.

We have another bag packing event on the 17th of December, also in ASDA Falkirk, and hope to fit a couple more in before the end of the year. May they all be as successful!

13th Nov - A Busy Weekend

The band had a busy weekend, playing on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

On the Friday, the band attended mini-band gigs at the Castings Club and the Ochiltree Club, playing a short selection of tunes at each event.

On Saturday night, the band hosted a disco, giving us an opportunity to relax after an autumn of practice, and also an opportunity to raise some much-needed funds. In total, we raised over £500 for the night, which was an excellent result, far exceeding our expectations. As on the Friday night, those members of the band who were present played a short selection of tunes.

On the Sunday morning, the band was gathered bright and early to attend the annual Armistice parade from Falkirk Town Hall to the Cenotaph. We certainly benefitted from the unusually mild weather for the season. However, it is fair to say that there were some questions raised about the wisdom of holding the disco the night before!

24th May - First Trophy of 2011

After a long hard winter practice, an upgrade, a few new faces and the chance to play a Strathspey and Reel for the first time for so many players, the season eventually kicked of for the band on Saturday 14th May at Dunbar.

Camelon Pipe Band

Windy and rainy weather conditions as well as some nerves didn't gives us the performance that we were looking for on our first day out, but did give the band the chance to get two runs and some valuable sheets from the judges.

With the Scottish Championships the following week, Dunbar offered us the chance to play in the open Grade 4 event as well as a March, Strathspey and Reel event in preparation for the Scottish.

Both performances were rather nervous affairs, but the band did well to take it's best ever placing and a trophy home from Dunbar with a 3rd place finish. In 2009 the band placed 24th, 5th in 2010 and now 3rd and a trophy in 2011.

The band also got to play it's MSR. This was the first time playing a Strathspey and Reel for 7 of the 9 drummers and a large number of pipers. Our winter upgrade meant that MSR is our main playing requirement of 2011 so it was great to get the first contest done, give everyone some experience and know that we will only get better as we progress and play more MSR's. 12 bands competed in the MSR event and the band finished in 4th place. A really good achievement for our first ever competitive MSR.

So a good day at Dunbar, gave everyone a chance to get their first contest of the season out the way and picked up a trophy as well.

10th April - Asda Bag Packing

Alan Bag PackingA big thanks to ASDA in both Falkirk and Grangemouth for allowing the band a Friday evening and Saturday of bag packing for much needed funds.

As the start of the season grows closer we reach the end of the fundraising opportunities, but of course the expenses of running the band never stop so we were very thankful for another 2 days of bag packing.

A big thanks to all the players and their family or partners who helped out, especially Saturday when the weather was so nice.

The total raised between Friday night and Saturday afternoon was a wonderful £998.68 and this covers the additional sporrans that were recently just purchased for the new band members.

The next fundraising event will be a can collection playing in Falkirk High Street on Saturday 23rd March.

24th January - Band Upgraded for 2011

Camelon Pipe Band LogoThe Music Board of the RSPBA met on Saturday 23rd January 2011 and a decision was taken to upgrade the band from 4B to 4A.

Several new players combined with the bands best season for almost two decades meant the band will make the step up to playing March, Strathspey and Reel for 2011.

This decision is still subject to ratification of the RSPBA National Council.

Subject to this ratification the band will be playing Men of Arygll and Auchmountainís Bonnie Glen as the marches, the strathspey Molly Connell and the reel Marion and Donald.

We are still looking for 1 snare drummer for the 2011 season. If you're interested please contact Jason.
